The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta is one of California's most productive bass fisheries, featuring over 700 miles of navigable waterways winding through tule marshes and farmland. Striped bass, largemouth bass, and catfish thrive in its sloughs and channels year-round. The Delta is also a major staging area for salmon migrating between the Pacific Ocean and the rivers of the Central Valley, making it a diverse and dynamic fishing destination.

The Sacramento River is California's longest river and one of the most important salmon fisheries on the West Coast. It supports all four runs of Pacific salmon—Chinook spring, fall, late-fall, and winter-run—as well as steelhead trout. From the upper reaches near Redding to the lower river approaching the Delta, the Sacramento offers exceptional salmon and trout fishing, with guide trips and charter boats operating throughout the season.

Bass Lake is a reservoir in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Madera County, California, near the southern entrance to Yosemite National Park. It offers excellent recreational fishing for largemouth bass, rainbow trout, and bluegill, as well as family-friendly camping and boating. The lake's warm summer waters and scenic pine-covered shoreline make it a popular destination for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts.

The American River flows through the Sacramento foothills and is a prime destination for salmon and steelhead trout. The lake's striking pyramid-shaped tufa formations and crystal-blue alkaline waters provide a dramatic backdrop for one of the West's most unique fishing experiences.

Flaming Gorge Reservoir straddles the Utah-Wyoming border in the Uinta Mountains, offering world-class fishing for trophy Lake Trout and Kokanee Salmon. The reservoir stretches 91 miles through dramatic red-rock canyon country and is renowned for producing some of the largest lake trout in the region. Downrigger trolling for lakers in the cold, clear depths is a specialty technique well documented for this water.

About 90 percent of Pardee Lake anglers fish for trout, both from the shore and from boats. Other available species include Brown Trout, Kokanee salmon, Black Bass, and three kinds of catfish. Children will particularly enjoy the fast-paced fishing for crappie, bluegill and sunfish.

Haven Lake in Mason County, Washington, is a 69.5-acre lowland lake sitting at about 370 feet elevation with depths up to 31 feet. Known for its heavy spring rainbow trout stocking, it also holds coho salmon, pumpkinseed sunfish, largemouth bass, and the occasional pickerel or carp. Access is via a single gravel boat ramp—ideal for small boats—with basic parking and ADA-accessible restrooms but no developed shoreline fishing areas.

Lake Amador is a reservoir located in Amador County, California. It lies at an elevation of 325 feet. The lake's water is impounded by the Jackson Creek Dam, a 193-foot tall earth-and-rock dam, built in 1965 across Jackson Creek.

Eastern Sierra, California. Current conditions for water temp, clarity, and level are not specified. Trolling is producing good numbers of quality rainbow trout. Kokanee are present but small (around 8 inches). Rainbow action should remain solid, but focus on rainbows unless kokanee size improves.

Rollins Lake is located at the 2100-foot elevation in the Sierra foothills. Found easily off Highway 174 between Grass Valley and Colfax.

Shaver Lake is the best place for anglers to catch the best fish, for sailors to enjoy boating as well as other water sports, and land lovers to go hiking. It is a census-designated place in Fresno County, California, United States. The population was 580 at the 2020 census, down from 634 at the 2010 census. Shaver Lake is on the southwest end of the lake of the same name, 10 miles east of New Auberry, at an elevation of 5,627 ft.

Kitsap Lake is a 238-acre freshwater lake located just west of Bremerton, Washington, at an elevation of about 159 feet. With a maximum depth of around 27 feet, it offers a mix of shallow and mid-depth waters well-suited for multiple fishing techniques. The lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout, including jumbo and triploid varieties, and also supports healthy populations of largemouth bass, bluegill, and sunfish, with occasional catches of cutthroat trout. Public access is available through a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife boat launch and shoreline areas, as well as Kitsap Lake Park, which provides a boat ramp, docks, restrooms, and picnic facilities. The lake is open year-round, and two-pole fishing is permitted.

New Bullards Bar Reservoir is a large reservoir in northeastern Yuba County, California, United States, at an elevation of 2,000 feet in the Tahoe National Forest and about 30 miles northeast of Yuba City.

One of Northern California's most beautiful fishing lakes, Lake Almanor is surrounded by the rolling slopes of the Northern Sierra Nevada. This Plumas County reservoir spans about 28,000 acres at full pool, making it one of California's largest man-made lakes as well as one of its best for trout fishing. There are a lot of great fishing lakes in the Sierras, but Lake Almanor is unique. It's one of the likeliest places to hook up with trophy-sized trout—both browns and rainbows—but it also happens to be one of California's best smallmouth bass lakes.

Northern California, warming weather, 70°F surface temp, clear to slightly stained water. Kokanee bite is hot, kings active deeper (55-90 ft), trout bite improving as water warms. Surface temps hit 70°F creating a warm layer, concentrating shad deeper. Expect strong kokanee/king bites, and improving trout action as the lake warms.

Northern California. Water temperature, clarity, and level are not specified. Fish have dropped to 22-27 ft deep. The spoon bite is intensifying, allowing for faster presentations. Expect fish to be in the 20-30 ft range next week, making it a good time for spoons.

Stampede Reservoir, located in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, is a popular destination for recreation and fishing. It's situated on the Little Truckee River, about 8 miles above the confluence with the Truckee River. The reservoir is known for its scenic shoreline, excellent trout fishing, and various water activities like boating, kayaking, and swimming.

Lake Camanche is an artificial lake in the San Joaquin Valley in California in the United States, at the juncture of Amador, Calaveras, and San Joaquin counties. Its waters are impounded by Camanche Dam, which was completed in 1963.

The San Luis Reservoir is an artificial lake on San Luis Creek in the eastern slopes of the Diablo Range of Merced County, California, approximately 12 mi (19 km) west of Los Banos on State Route 152, which crosses Pacheco Pass and runs along its north shore. It is the fifth largest reservoir in California.

Whiskeytown Lake is a reservoir in Shasta County in northwestern California, United States, about 8 miles west of Redding. It has a capacity of 241,100 acre⋅ft and is formed by Whiskeytown Dam on Clear Creek.

Folsom Lake waters hold trout, catfish, largemouth and smallmouth bass, perch, and salmon. An accessible fishing pier is available on Lake Natoma at the Nimbus Flat park entrance. A valid California fishing license is required.

New Melones Lake is a popular fishing area in north central California, and the undulating foothills of the Sierra Nevada offer a magnificent background. New Melones lake is a 12,500-acre artificial lake created with a dam on the Stanislaus River. It is located in the center of Gold County, California. The scenic surroundings and the gold found near the lake more than a century ago have made it somewhat popular. Sonora, a community, founded during the California Gold Rush, is located 9 miles from the water. The coastline of New Melones Lake (also known as New Melones Reservoir) is primarily undeveloped, except for a marina and a few parks. New Melones' massive size and rugged coastline make it a perfect destination for anybody who wants to fish away from the crowds. For the same reason, it's a fantastic spot for fishing with a fishing charter.

Eastern Sierra, California, with diminishing water clarity due to increasing algae. Water level is normal, with seasonal weed and algae growth starting. The trolling bite is currently hot for rainbow and brown trout. Expect algae to continue building, likely slowing the trolling bite in about three weeks, prompting a shift to bait fishing.

Tuolumne County, CA, 70°F surface temp, clear water (12-13 ft visibility), and dropping water levels. Fish are stacking deep (50-75 ft) due to a cooler temperature break. The lake is 10 feet from full, with the Blue Oaks ramp closed. Expect continued solid action if the cool band holds steady, adjusting for falling water levels.

Northern California. Water temperature, clarity, and level are not specified. Fishing is "on fire" with active fish across 20-70 ft depths. Limits of Kokanee, Kings, and Trout are being caught, with crappie, bass, and catfish also present. Fish are active across a wide depth range.

French Meadows Reservoir is a manmade lake 36 miles northeast of Foresthill, California, United States on the Middle Fork of the American River. The reservoir is 2.9 miles long, 0.6-mile wide, with 7.3 miles of shoreline.

Bucks Lake, located in Plumas County, California, is known for its excellent fishing, particularly for trout and kokanee salmon. The lake is accessible from May to September, with the best fishing typically occurring from May to September. Popular species include Rainbow trout, Brown trout, Brook trout, Lake trout, and Kokanee Salmon. Trophy-sized Mackinaw trout are also a possibility, with the lake record reportedly over 30 pounds, according to Plumas County.
